Why Prospect Prep Tutors?

Guaranteed Results

It is not uncommon for our students to raise their scores 300 points in the SAT and 7 points on the ACT. We are so confident in the proven strength of our test prep program that we now offer a score increase guarantee to our SAT and ACT prep students who complete programs that consist of at least 15 hours of tutoring: SAT: 100 points ACT: 3 points – or your money back. In order to be eligible for this guarantee, students must complete all homework assignments and take the recommended number of timed practice tests (at least 5). Starting scores must be below 2000 (SAT) or 25 (ACT). Contact us for more details!

Here’s a recent example of the ACT practice test scores of one of our students:

  • 2/24/13 – English:21 Math:18 Reading:24 Science:13 – Composite Score: 19
  • 3/16/13 – English:25 Math:21 Reading:27 Science:22 – Composite Score: 24

One-on-One Tutoring

A hallmark of an exceptional teacher lies in his or her ability to make any student feel comfortable, respected, and encouraged, from the energetic extrovert to the retiring bookworm. Where our tutors find impatient over-confidence leading to perfunctory responses and careless errors, we cultivate circumspection, focus and thoroughness. Where we encounter insecurity and hesitation, we are able to quickly perceive how best to sow the seeds of self-confidence.

One-on-one private tutoring is simply the best possible arrangement to individualize a study plan that will optimize results.

Great Teaching, Great Results

Our expert tutors help our students achieve their goals: higher scores, better grades, and admission to the colleges of their choice. Our students regularly raise their SAT scores over 100 points in each section; they permanently put themselves on successful tracks in their academic classes; they submit college applications that yield acceptance letters.

One measure of this success can be found in the frequency of our re-hires. Over the years, we have been repeatedly hired to tutor multiple children within the same families.

Strategies and Techniques

Over 15 years of teaching, Prospect Prep Founder David Travis has developed unique strategies for approaching the different question types found on the standardized tests we tutor. By sitting for an actual SAT every year, he has stayed on top of subtle test changes. He has a thorough, nuanced understanding of test prep you will find nowhere else.

We teach the well-known standardized test techniques that Kaplan, Princeton Review and other major corporate agencies teach, but we also equip our students with an arsenal of strategies that bristles with secret weapons.

Communication

We are in regular communication with parents, whether it be to recommend ways that they might support the tutoring process (e.g. nightly vocabulary quizzes), or to alert them that their child has failed to complete a homework assignment, or to suggest a change in the study plan in between sessions in light of recent practice test results.

We are professional problem-solvers who are responsive to the evolving needs of our client families. Our tutors are happy to create multi-week homework plans for those students who are more self-sufficient, and we try our best to accommodate last-minute scheduling changes, whether that means adding a late-night Skype session or electing to take a couple of weeks off while a student focuses on other commitments.
